Sexual Assault & PTSD

To call the aftermath,  Survival is to say the least.
Although one has walked away with their life, there are many things still that Must be Handled , To ensure the Peace of mind that was once so easily accessed.
Lets talk about PTSD in general, before moving on to the issue at hand..
. PTSD or (Post traumatic Stress Disorder) is A neurological disorder that develops after a traumatic event either occurs or is witnessed . For those of you thinking "Witness?" Yes, You can Get PTSD from witnessing an event like this. Symptoms like anxiety, depression, Sucidal thoughts, Flashbacks etc come right along with this condition..
Alot of people suggest going to see a therapist will help, and although this will help some , it wont help everyone .

As I stated in my previous article, It never matters how long ago the event happened, the PTSD symptoms can be triggered throughout our lives. I do not wish to alarm you , but If you find yourself suffering severe PTSD Symptoms , I strongly Council that you do not ignore such things and take proper measures .
After an event like Rape, The number one thing you should be worried about , is Alleviating and monitoring your Mental health and PTSD symptoms  . Trauma effects every aspect of a person, and to ignore this is to remain ignorant and a slave to the symptoms.

If you do not wish to seek out a counselor, thats fine, but I Suggest you take it upon yourself ( or a trusted Person) to Monitor your mental health on a daily basis . PTSD is a serious thing, and should be taken such as that . Keep track of your thoughts, sleeping, eating, and social habits .
If you find yourself struggling to maintain Your grip on reality, then I strongly council Seeking a sober approach to life, as numbing yourself will add to the disconnect. That means stay away from alcohol, recreational drugs, lifestyle drugs, or party drugs.  The most important thing , is to reconnect with who you are and heal your body, soul, and mind. You must respect your beings need to heal, properly and with you fully attentive.
If you are having episodes of anger or paranoia, then i suggest Getting fresh air as much as possible and connect with your reality as often as triggered. You can do simple exercises such as praying, or even a breathing exercises where you connect deeply with your breath , and while doing so -outloud, state where you are, what date it is, and what is currently going on around you. This is called "grounding your energy" and is one way of snapping back into your Personal reality...

You can keep a daily journal of your emotions , if this will help you track your progress . Any sort of way to monitor your progress. Creating a routine for yourself, Is also AGood way of doing this. Keep track of how often your flashbacks happen, Making note of the triggers also . This will help you connect the dots if youre having an episode and cant handle it.

On a side note,  Dear,  you are doing great and you should be proud of yourself for desiring to heal all that you are. This is truly something that will take time, and seeing as each person is unique there really is no timeline of when to expect yourself to heal. Do not rush the process, and be open even if there are days that are horrible- take your time! And Allow your days to unfold, There is nowhere and nothing you shold be doing different.

After an event like this, it is best to be as gentle with yourself as possible, youve got to heal and in order to heal properly you must release all harsh opinions of yourself and others.

If you have a negative sense of self after an event like that, and dislike certain parts of your body etc, i insist you do your best to work towards loving your body, mind etc. Anything negative that was said to you during the incident, was used as an abuse tool to try and diminish your self worth.
Remember, you are beautiful, you are whole, and your life is worth keeping on this earth. No amount of negative energy projected will permanently diminish your self worth, its up to you to fall back in love with yourself and find the keys to helping yourself heal. You will be A Shining Gem If you contine this journey. Healing is possible, and it only takes the decision to walk those steps. You can do it !

Take more time for leisure, self care, hobbies, and those you love , as connecting with these things will help you heal. You dont have to prove anythig to anyone, and you dont always have to put on a happy face for the world. If you are suffering, allow yourself to feel it and ask "what can I Do for myself, right now, in this moment to soothe me"
You Owe no one an explanation , and you should not worry about how others see you. The most important opinion of you, is the one you have of yourself .

Any questions, or inquiries you can always find me on facebook, instagram, and of course here.
All of my love and gentleness on this journey of self,

E.B
